First® Tech Challenge Overview
  • FIRST Tech Challenge is a robotics based competition designed by US FIRST for students of ages 14 to 18 (7-12 grades) and is organised by India STEM Foundation ; National Affiliate Partner of FIRST in India.
  • The challenge registration commences in September. The national championship will be in February followed by the world championship in the month of April.
  • The challenge requires teams to build & program their robots using standard kits and play a sophisticated game obliging set of rules and regulations.
  • While the program intends to develop STEM skills in participating students, it will also enable them to appreciate innovation, hard work, knowledge sharing, team work & other important life skills. Students can also market their work and brand their teams to earn sponsorship in their community.
  • A participating team can have 3 to 15 members and 2 to 3 coaches/mentors. Team must read through the year’s challenge and possess necessary participating kit. The kit is reusable from year to year and programmable using variety of languages.
  • Along with lot of learning, FTC also provides access to over 10 million dollars of scholarships in leading universities at USA.
How does FTC help students?

US FIRST reports that more than 84% FTC participants like to take challenging career path in math or science.

Season Calendar

The FIRST Tech Challenge kick-off happens in first week of September every year. Registration to the competition opens in by end of September followed by a building or competition preparation season from October to January. The national championship (FIRST Tech Challenge India) will be scheduled in February, followed by FIRST World Championship in the month of April.

Note: Depending on the number of teams from a particular region, we might conduct FTC India Regionals prior to FTC India Nationals. The information will be updated 4-6 weeks prior to the actual competition dates

Be a Mentor/Coach
  • Bring your technical or non-technical expertise to the team
  • A team needs 2-3 mentors/coaches to build competitive solution.
  • Assist with programming/power & signal system/design & building of robot etc.
Be an Event Volunteer
  • All skills are welcomed to be part of our event.
  • Provide technical assistance at the competition.
  • Help students with necessary tools & information at the venue.
  • Contribute to run the event smoothly & successfully.

Registration Information

FTC Encourage Ensemble (To register as a student):

FTC Encourage Ensemble allows individual student to participate in the competition without having to worry about kit of parts, training & coaching etc.

The FTC Encourage Ensemble cost is INR 1,25,000/- per student

India STEM Foundation will allocate student to a team and assist with orientation, access to necessary kit of parts, training & coaching etc.

FTC Registration Only allows Rookie (teams participating first time in FTC) & Veteran teams to register their teams

The FTC Team Registration cost is INR 30,000/- per team member

India STEM Foundation recommends team coaches to register the team name, pay registration fee and add the details of team members
